BQ40Z50EVM-561: BQ40Z50

Part Number: BQ40Z50EVM-561
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EV2400, BQSTUDIO, BQ40Z50

Hello there,

We try to use the BQ40Z50EVM-561.
Three 1-kΩ resistors to configure 3 cells simulator and DC power supply 12.6 V.
We pressed the Wake pushbutton switch, but the DSG and CHG FET were not active.
Can the BQ40Z50EVM-561 work standalone?

  • Hi,

The BQ40Z50EVM can work standalone. Can you share a detailed image/diagram of your setup? Are you attempting to communicate with BQStudio software via an EV2400? Usually a voltage across PACK+/- will also be required to initially wake the device.

    Best Regards,

    Jackson

  • When pressing the Wake pushbutton switch, the DC power supply 12.6V provides PACK+.

But the DSG and CHG FET were not active.

We don't have the EV2400 and BQSTUDIO. Does the BQ40Z50EVM not work without the EV2400/BQSTUDIO?

  • Hi Nao,

The EV2400 and BQStudio will be necessary in the development process of configuring your gauge. At the very least it is required for uploading the correct CHEMID to the gauge and is especially useful for debugging as you can view and log the status of all registers on the device. I am not sure of your stage of development with the BQ40Z50 but I would highly recommend the EV2400 as it streamlines the development process.

In terms of your issue getting the device to wake, I am going to go into the lab and recreate your setup in the lab to try and find a solution. I will update you by the end of the day tomorrow.

  • Hi Jackson,

    Thanks for your help.
We will consider to get the EV2400 and BQStudio.
We want to confirm the BQ40Z50EVM's working by standalone on the default settings first.

    Regards,

  • Hi Nao,

You may have to send a FET_EN command in order to enable the chg and dsg FETs on the device. This can be done in BQStudio through the advanced comms plugin or the commands plugin by clicking the FET_EN command.

    Best Regards,

    Jackson
