TPS23861: questions of TPS23861

Part Number: TPS23861

Dear Team,

TPS23861 datasheet page1, only see the words 802.3at and type-2, but do not see the words 802.3af or 15.4W or type-1, please confirm again that TPS23861 supports 802.3af.
At present, there is a test item fail when using PSE SIFOS, please help to find out why it fails? Thanks a lot!

Many Thanks,

Jimmy

  • Hi Jimmy,

    Yes TPS23861 supports Type 1 (IEEE802.3af).

Can you provide more detail on what is failing? How are you configuring PSE? How are you configuring Sifos tests?  What tests are failing?

    Very Respectfully,

    Brandon Beader

  • Hi Beader,

CPU connect to TPS23861 by I2C.(No MCU)

Our software don’t config PSE chip.

PSE SIFOS test report for your reference.

Please help to reply and resolve the fail issue asap, thanks!

They test 802.3 at pass. But test  802.3af fail.

could you guide us how to resolve it?

    Many Thanks,

    Jimmy

  • Hi Jimmy,

This is expected fail if you do not configure TPS23861 to limit power to type 1 power, TPS23861 default is type 2. Register 0x21h is the two-event classification register, you will need to disable two-event classification.

This should resolve your issue and allow test to run with no failures. If this resolves your issue, please mark resolved on this thread.

    Very Respectfully,

    Brandon Beader

  • Hi Beader,

    Thanks you very much.

Currently we read 0x21 default value: 0x55.
The software of the customer you mentioned needs to be 0x21 config. The customer software engineer is not sure how to configure the PSE. Please help to describe a more complete and correct config action, thank you.
    1. Do you fill in 0x55 into 0x00 immediately after booting?
    2. After that, 0x21 is displayed as 0x00. When I insert PoE loader 802.3 at or 802.3af, will PSE SIFOS automatically switch to .at or .af mode? Or do I need to do other actions?

    Many Thanks,

    Jimmy

  • Hi Jimmy,

What operating mode is customer operating in?

After power on command, you will need to write 00 into 0x21h. You can run autodetect on Sifos PSE and load the settings of autodetect for Sifos test.

    Very Respectfully,

    Brandon Beader
