TPS65580: Current consumption at no load

Hello,

My customer is using the TPS65580 under the following conditions.

- VIN=12V, VOUT=5V

1. What is the current consumption specification of TPS65580 when there is no output load?

2. As a result of measurement on the customer's board, the following deviations occurred for each board.

- Bd #1 : 37mA / Bd #2 : 52mA / Bd #3 : 83mA / Bd#4 : 115mA / Bd #5 : 132mA

Is this normal? What is the cause of this symptom?

Hi JH,

1. There is no current consumption requirement with no load for buck converter. It depends on customer application. However we don have the input current data for all channels switching with Io=0A as below. This data is based on our EVM setting.

You may order an EVM to check what difference between EVM and your application.

Hi JH,

There is no problem on customer schematic, The EVM used 12Vin, 3.3V/1.2V/1.5V Vout and 2x2.2uH/3.3uH. You board used 12Vin, all 5Vout and 3.3uH inductor. These may cause higher input current on your board. You may check if the inductor tolerance caused different input current for 5 boards.
