TPS65982: [TPS65982] Inquiry about programming method of TPS65982

Part Number: TPS65982
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB564RNQEVM, , TPS65987, TPS65988

Hi, TI Support Team

The following inquiries have been received from customers.

The customer conducted a review with the TUSB564RNQEVM.

We developed the product according to the customer's application and checked the operation by directly applying the EVM's flash memory during the review.

The EVM was equipped with a TPS65986, and the actual development product was equipped with a TPS65982.

Since it was confirmed that the USB type-C DP Alt mode operates normally when the existing flash memory is applied in a situation where the programming information for the TPS65982 cannot be checked, we request the

following.

1. Please tell me how to programing the TPS65982.

  - If you have any data about the software setting guide, please share it.

  - If you have a reference code, please share it.

2. Is it possible to apply TPS65987 instead of TPS65982?

3. If possible, is the programming method the same? (If it is different, please tell me the method.)

Thanks.

Regards,

MJ

  • Hi MJ,

Thanks for reaching out on E2E!

Let me get to you by the end of the week!

    Thank you,

    Kevin

  • Hi MJ,

    1. I highly recommend watching this tutorial (linked below) for configuring our PD EVMs using the Application Customization Tool v6.1.3. Using this tool, customer can either directly program their device using the tool or generate a full-flash binary to flash the PD using other means (such as Aardvark Flash Center, through external MCU, etc.). Although the tutorial uses the TPS65987EVM, the concept is the same for all of our PD controllers.

    2. The TPS65987 is our most current and up-to-date PD 3.0 device. TPS65982 only supports PD2.0, which is no longer certified by USB-IF. I recommend switching over to the TPS65987 DH (or for a dual port solution, TPS65988) which supports PD3.0. Please do note TPS65982 and TPS65987 have different pinouts (refer to their respective datasheets, section "Pin Configuration and Function").

    3. As mentioned before, the programming method is the same using the Application Customization Tool.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Raymond Lin
