LM5032: Design help

Hi experts,

I would like to use it for the following application as a buck converter:

Input: 120VDC

Output:12VDC

Power:500W

Would you have any suggestions? Is this ok to use.

    A buck usually has a high side switch with N-channel MOSFET, but LM5032 does not have a high side driver. Then you would need to have an external driver for high side driver. If you can find such a high side driver, and ok to use with LM5032 then you will be ok to use this device for a buck with N-channel MOSFET at high side. If your design needs a synchronous MOSFET rectifier then you would need to have a complimentary high side low side driver. If you can find such a driver then you can use LM5032 for sync buck. Please note your input 120V, so your high side driver needs to such a voltage rating for level shifting.

    After you have found these above, then LM5032 is ok to use for a buck. You would need to go to look for such drivers on a new thread as such drivers are not on our expertise so you would need to post another thread to look for.

    I am thinking of using this in an interleaved buck configuration. I see your point about using a 120V high-side gate driver. I will look into that. 

    Would I also need a differential opamp for current sense?

    It depends on how you arrange your current sense. If using a typical approach to send high side inductor current, yes you would need to arrange high side inductor current sense using differential opamp or some high side sensing devices which would be another e2e thread to ask - TI does have such current sensing devices for high side current sensing.
