TPS1HA08-Q1: the difference between energy limit and thermal shutdown

Part Number: TPS1HA08-Q1

Dear team,

Could you please tell me the difference between energy limit and thermal shutdown? I think these two functions are same, so I don't understand why we add energy limit function here?

Thanks & Best Regards,

Sherry

  • Hi Sherry,

Yes they're similar in terms behavior. But for fault event such as short-to-GND, as the energy dissipated so fast, the device might take a lot energy before the temperature rises to the shutdown level. Energy limit is just to shutdown the part faster to protect the FET in such event.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

    Regards,

    Yichi
