TPS1HB16-Q1: Maximum sense current at sense pin

Part Number: TPS1HB16-Q1

Hi TI team,

To better size the sense resistor for TPS1HB16-Q1 , I would like to know the maximum current from the sense pin. My assumption is the following:

ISENSE(max) = ISENSE(fault) = 5.3mA

This means that the current from sense pin is clamped when the load current gets over ISENSE(fault) x KSNS = 5.3mAx3000 = 15.9A

So even if I set the current limit high than 15.9A (for example 24A), I would sense the same current between [15.9 to 24A] which is equal to the fault current.

Could you please confirm my assumption?

If my assumption is true, it could be an issue for me to know how to differentiate between a fault and normal operation.

Abderrahman

  • Hi Abderrahman,

Yes your understanding is correct. ISNSFH is the max current the pin will output. It's hard to differentiate in that case. I guess that high current duration is for cap charging? Maybe you can see if fault goes low for longer than X period of time, making sure it passes the cap charging period, and then you can see if it's during cap charging or an actual fault?
