BQ76920: Using two IC for my BMS (I2C)

Part Number: BQ76920

Hello,

I have to design a BMS to monitor my battery cells. I will use from 3s3p to 5s3p packs and I have few question :

I will use 3 of these ICs, one for each string, how can I communicate with these three IC ? Should I use 3 separate bus or can I use the same ? If not, can I just use a demux to discuss with the good one ?

Thanks by advance,

Best regards,

Maxime

  • Hi Maxime,

I am not 100% clear on what you are trying to do. Typically for a 5s3p pack, most users will use one battery monitor. If the strings need to be monitored separately, then multiple monitors are needed. You will need 3 separate busses since the I2C address will be the same for the same part number.

    Best regards,

  • Thank you for this quick answer,

I was wrong on the denomination, I will use 3 strings of 5 batteries in Serie, like this : (so 3p5s I guess)

In any case you perfectly answered my questions, thanks a lot for your quickness!

    Best regards !
