TPS1HC30-Q1: junction temp

Part Number: TPS1HC30-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS1HC100-Q1

Hi team,

Regarding TPS1HC100-Q1, and TPS1HC30-Q1, the datasheet test condition says Ta=-40C to 125C.

However, there are still some spec whose test condition is Tj=150C.

On the other hand, HB device says the test condition is Tj = -40C to 150C as shown below.

Also there is no abs max junction temp in the D/S.

Question.

  1. Are we able to say that the recommended operating temp range of the TPS1HC100-Q1 / TPS1HC30-Q1 (and other roadmap HC family) is within Tj = -40C to 150C like other HB and H family?
  2. The abs max of the Tj of the HC family is 150C right?

Thank you.

Regards,

Hirata

  • Hirata-san,

The device is protected with integrated thermal shutdown protection. Therefore, the device will always turn itself off and protect against hot events.

Thermal shutdown occurs at 165C for TPS1HC30 (typical) and thus a higher temperature than this is not possible. The definition of the test case was changed to reflect ambient temperature rather than junction temperature as in application, the ambient temperature is usually controlled or a design spec.

    To answer your questions:

    1. This is an acceptable inference since the maximum junction temperature that can be seen prior to absolute thermal shutdown is 165C and junction temps will be higher than ambient temps.

    2. We state that over an ambient temperature of -40C to 125C, the device is rated and tested to operate within the datasheet parameters.

Finally, the HC series of devices is built for the 12V automotive system just like HB/HA and older H devices.

    Thanks,

  • Shreyas-san,

    Thanks for your answer.

    1. I understood that this device is intended to be used up to Tj=150C.

    2. Recommended operating condition and absolute max is different. There are so many ICs whose thermal shutdown is over 160C but abs max is Tj=150C. I just would like to know the HC family abs max junction temp. I believe this is 150C because this is Grade 1 device but there is no description so i would like to doublecheck.

    Thank you.

  • Hirata-san,

Tj of 150C is supportable by the device.

Thank you for the feedback. We will see how to improve our datasheets to avoid confusion.

    Thanks,

    Shreyas

  • Hi Shreyas-san,

    Thanks for your answer.

    I understood.

    I appreciate your support.
