BQ25622: part recommendation

Hi Customer Chamberlain is asking for battery charger IC.  What do you recommend for following:

Vin=5V

Vout=5.6V-8.2V, Typ : 7.4V

Charging current is 3A

charging port is type C                

I have asked more specifics about the battery however waiting reply. This BQ25622 looks to be good for the application. What is your opinion?  Anything better?

    Hi HSG,

    Unfortunately the BQ25622 is a one-cell device and your output is indicating two-cell behavior. There are several families of parts that support the application:

    1. BQ25798, BQ25792, BQ24179, BQ25790 are 4-cell integrated buck-boost converters with 5 A charge current. This family has a reference design with integration with TI PD Controller as USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01.

    2. BQ2571x, BQ2570x are 4-cell charge controllers with 8.128 A charge current.

    3. BQ2572x/3x are 4-cell charge controllers with 16 A charge current.

    Although 1 is a good option, it has input current limit of ~3 A. So charging at 3 A at a higher voltage would exceed that when boosting. As such I would stick with options 2-3.
