LM5060-Q1: LM5060Q1MM/NOPB

Part Number: LM5060-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5060, LM74202-Q1

Hi Expert:

We have customer has design LM5060-Q1 into automotive infotainment systems from car battery with over current protection, Here is the design target spec and I attached schematic and LM5060 design calculator . because customer have to cost down design, customer is design a Diode (PCB location: D127) from input to MOSFET Q24 for reverse polarity protection not Back-back MOSFET switch design. could you please help review the schematic and give suggestions if have any risk ?  thank you very much.

design spec

- Minimum Input voltage: 9V.

- Typical input voltage: 12V.

- Max input voltage: 16V

- Max operating current: 0.5A.

- Cout =110uF.

-Over current protection target= 2.1A typical.

- MOSFET spec : DMN10H170SFGQ-7

- With Reverse Polarity protection : design a Diode (PCB location : D127) prevent reverse polarity .

  • Hi Roy,

For such low load current application, why not choose devices like LM74202-Q1 which Integrated Ideal Diode with input reverse polarity, Overvoltage and Overcurrent Protection. You can replace all of D127, Q24 and U9 with a single LM74202-Q1 device.

How critical is over current protection accuracy in customer application ? I am asking this question because the over current protection accuracy is very poor and this device is only recommended to be used for short circuit protection. In this case the minimum over current threshold is as low as 0.86A.
