BQ27621-G1: Suitable Part

Part Number: BQ27621-G1

Hello E2E Experts,

Good day.

I need to measure the battery SoC on a 18650 or similar removable cell battery. My product will not charge the battery, the user will replace them once it is discharged. My microprocessor will connect to the gauge ideally using i2c. the reading of SoC can be approximate (not excessively precise) since the application will show a 3 bar battery charge state (33%-66%-100%) on a display.

I found other solutions but I am not sure they will work for a removable application.

What would happen if the battery introduced is different (mAh) from the previous one or if the SoC is not 100%?

More details:

1) I need to measure SoC on a removable Li-ion battery cell (18650)
2) I want an approximated SoC reading (like 33/66/100%) to show in a display
3) User will be free to fit batteries that are not always in the same SoC and do have not the same capacity (mAh).
4) Ideally I would like to communicate to the gauge using I2C. I can evaluate other options.

I would like to confirm that believe the battery detect feature will be able to read the SoC of your Li-Ion battery. The other problem is most of them come in BGA packages which I am avoiding in this application. something like BQ27621-G1could work (if battery detect works) but in some other package.

Is there a gauge that has a battery detect feature or is similar to a battery detect?

Thank you in advance for your support.

Regards,

CSC
