TPS745-Q1: Does line regulation apply in negative direction also? (Can the output voltage decrease from nominal)

Part Number: TPS745-Q1

Hi,

The maximum line regulation of LDO is 7.5mV (TPS745-Q1 Datasheet)

Can the output voltage decrease (from the nominal) due to line regulation?

In the application note: https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slva079/slva079.pdf, it seems to suggest that due to an increase in input voltage, the output voltage can swing either in positive, or negative direction from Nominal 3.3V,

I request this information, for calculating the output voltage tolerance of LDO under worst case conditions.

  • Hi Edwin,

Generally speaking increasing VIN will cause the VOUT to regulate at a higher voltage, and increasing IOUT will cause the VOUT to regulate at a lower voltage. Across all LDO devices it is possible that some have a line regulation profile that decreases the output voltage based on an increase in the input voltage causing the generic app note to account for this in its presentation. However, as shown in the two graphs below, this device performs where an increase in the VIN will cause VOUT to increase as well at a set temperature.

    Regards,

    John
