TPS65381A-Q1: Integrated power solution and discrete power solution

Part Number: TPS65381A-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM2634, TPS62913

Hi Team,

We used TPS65381A-Q1 + TPS62913 to power AM2634 and encountered some issues. VDD6+62913 to power 1.2V core and VDD3/5 to power MCU 3.3V. The input of 65381 is 12V DC Source.

The problem is very strange: when we use this 65381+62913 integrated power solution, the MCU always stop running software. Then we also checked the 1.2V and 3.3V voltage condition, it seemed normal. And VDD6 is also normal. So we didn't find the cause of the problem.

Then we change to other discrete power solution(other DC/DC and LDO to replace 65381) to power MCU. It seemed all the problem disappear.

So could you kindly give me some suggestions to find the cause of this problem? What aspects should I check, could you give a check list?

Thanks

BRs

  • Hi Kian,

TPS65381A-Q1 is not an officially supported PMIC for the AM263x processor family so I cannot comment on specific implementation details of using this combination. What I can say is that if the power is stable going into the processor then I cannot see a reason from the PMIC side that the MCU software would stop running. I would confirm what is happening with all of the digital inputs/outputs to the PMIC to see if there is some interaction between the PMIC/MCU that is causing an issue.

  • Hi Layne,

As you said below, I want to know how to check this.

I would confirm what is happening with all of the digital inputs/outputs to the PMIC to see if there is some interaction between the PMIC/MCU that is causing an issue.

BTW, if there any possibility that this issue was caused by layout?

Could you share some materials to me? or could we discuss about this via webex when you have time?

    Thanks!

  • Hi Layne,

Which digital pin or which operating condition will cause this issue? Could you give some proposals?

    Thanks

  • Hi Kian,

Due to the Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S. our TPS65381A-Q1 experts are out of office this week. Please expect a delayed response by early next week. Thank you in advance for your patience.

    Best Regards,
