TPS2372: Connecting TPS2372 to an 802.3af only PSE.

Part Number: TPS2372
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PMP20869, TPS23751, PMP20859

We are implementing a dual input redundant PoE supply, as in the PMP20869 evaluation board, making use of the Automatic MPS operation of TPS2372. The two off TPS2372's will be connected to PSE's that are 802.3af only (15W at PSE).

Do we just set the CLSA & CLSB resistors to 1210Ω to set PD class to 0 (0.44W to 12.95W) to set power level to ensure the TPS2372's enables power to the rest of the circuitry ?

We are going to be using a TPS23751 as DC/DC  5V @ 2A, this being one of the few TI DC/DC parts and and isolating transformers we can get hold of.

  • Hi Ian,

From my understanding, you are using 2 TPS2372's for your dual input redundant PoE supply then downstream utilizing TPS23751 for DCDC isolated converter for 5V @ 2A.

I believe you are reffering to PMP20859 not PMP20869, please correct me if I am wrong....This reference design is for dual input redundent PoE power utilizing TPS2372's. For setting Class 0 power for circuit you will set CLSA and CLSB to 1210Ω on both devices.

  • Oops, you are correct PMP20859 "Dual-Input Redundant PoE PD with Smooth Transition Reference Design". Thanks.
