UCC25800-Q1: Multiple isolated secondary windings transformer - Low Power/High voltage

Hi!

We are working in an application for industrial battery management systems and to isolate our circuits in an efficient way, we plan to combine 4 secondary isolated windings in one transformer.

UCC25800-Q1 seems to fit our application, but I want to ask if it can handle this kind of transformer, or you have any different solution for this application. The most important goal here is to get an efficient way to isolate this multiple low power loads.

Any suggestion is welcome.

Hi Thiago,

I believe the UCC25800-Q1 can handle a transformer like this so long as the load does not exceed the limit of the controller. I found this statement near the end of the datasheet.

I will double-check with our Systems team and update this post if I find out otherwise.

This reference design will be a great starting point.

I was looking at some different options here and found LM5181 flyback converter, it looks to have a high efficiency. From your experience, do you think that it can offer multiple regulated outputs (with similar loads) with just one feedback on the same transformer?

Hi Thiago,

There is a dual output EVM for the LM5181, so it definitely can produce multiple outputs. There are many App Notes and design tool for the LM5181 on its Home Page. If you have additional questions about the LM5181 please start a new thread/post.

One more piece of information on using the UCC25800 with multiple outputs. For multi-windings with a single transformer you will need to apply primary resonance configuration, which resonant cap is on the primary side. This is discussed on page 16 - 19 in the following App Note:
