BQ25895: The charge current cannot reach the set value

Part Number: BQ25895

Hi team,

Here's an issue from the customer may need your help:

The register is configured to charge current limit 2.4A, but the actual charge current is only around 1.6 a and cannot be increased. By changing the current limit of the register to 1.2A, the actual test can be around 1.2A. However, the charge current set cannot be reached when the current limit set exceeds 1.6A.

While charging, the register status is as follows:

The register configuration is as follows:

   REG00:70

           REG01:06

           REG02:3D

           REG03:3A

           REG04:26

           REG05:18

           REG06:5F

           REG07:B9

           REG08:00

           REG0A:C3

Could you help check this case? Thanks.

Best Regards,

Cherry

  • Hi Cherry,

Your REG13 value of 0x99 indicates that the charger is in VINDPM regulation (See Section 8.2.6.2 of the datasheet). When VINDPM regulation is active this usually indicates that the input adapter or input source is overloaded. If the device is in VINDPM regulation, the charging current will be reduced to keep VBUS from falling below the set input voltage limit.

The input voltage limit settings is handled by REG0D[6:0] or by REG01[4:0] when automatic VINDPM threshold setting is active (default).

Also, REG0B is incapable of having a value of 0x118 so I would double check the register readings to be safe.

    Regards,

    James
