BQ25895: Turn off Q1 RBFET

Part Number: BQ25895

Hello,

RD used pin PMID to output voltage for system.

RD would like to turn off PMID voltage, so he asked whether there is any way to turn off Q1 RBFET shown in function block.

If BQ25895 can't meet, do you have any suggestion item or solution which can meet RD's request?

Thnasks & best regards,

  • Hi David,

Can you provide a bit more detail when you say output voltage? Is RD using the OTG Mode (Boost Mode) output to PMID, or are they using PMID to supply a system load in forward charging mode? (It's not recommended to do the latter).

There is no direct way to turn off Q1 RBFET in our chargers. In certain ICs such as the BQ25895, this FET is turned off in OTG mode to facilitate boost converter output at the PMID pin and to isolate VBUS from PMID. This isolation allows the device to detect an adapter plug-in event and automatically switch from OTG mode to charging mode and vice versa. Even for chargers that do not use PMID as the direct OTG output, PMID will have voltage since it is part of the power pathway to the buck output and also part of the power pathway for the boost output to VBUS.

We do not recommend using the PMID output to supply a system load unless the device is operating in OTG mode (Boost mode).

    Regards,

    James
