BQ25708: Can the designed be scaled to support a 100W output

Part Number: BQ25708
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25720

Would be nice if we could use the bq25708 to power a 100 watt system.

The input voltage will be 12V or 20V, depending on the user implementation, and will have a 4sXp battery.

Is it as simple as reducing the sense resistors to something like 5 milliohms and using better FETs and a higher current/lower loss inductor?  Obviously we will have to scale the register reads and writes to account for the change to the sense resistors.

Appreciate your help

  • Hello Michael,

You can use a lower sense resistor and adjust the values in your software as you mentioned. You will also need to ensure your input/output capacitance is good enough.

Have you also considered our newer devices, like BQ25720 which supports the 5mOhm option and up to 10A charging natively?
