BQ40Z80: learning cycle regarding

Part Number: BQ40Z80

Hello  Team ,

i just started my learning cycle connecting the battery setup to the EVK , my battery cell are Lion cells (3 cells) part number US18650VTC5A so the chemid is 0x2161

.programmed the chemid  started the learning cycle.

1. Discharge battery to empty. ->   Actually i have took C/10 Rate -2600MAh /10 = 260 MA = 0.260A  , i have attched my test setup screen shot also. for your reference.

Term voltage  set as 8995 mv , but before reaching the voltage range the gauge report 0 % , before reaching the point VOK and RDIS bit is cleared and RESET flag is set , as per my understanding RESET flag will set after the  relax mode.?

what was the reason for the failure of my learning cycle ?  Can i able to proceed with this setup for charging ? or i need to start again. i attached log files for your reference

Whether balancing circuit is available in EVK setup ???

  • Hello Mohan,

I took a look at your log, from what I can tell the current profile is not correct, after discharge you should be at 0mA flowing so the gauge can take an OCV before the charging starts, but you go straight from discharge to charging. Also the discharge current is very noisy and not at 260mA which will be needed as a minimum (C/10 - C/7 would be better) during the resistance learning phase.

I believe you are talking about the REST bit which is set when the gauge takes an OCV in relax mode.

Make sure to follow the guides for learning cycle as close as possible or it will not be successful: https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/slua848

    Sincerely,
