TPS92682-Q1: TPS92682 CC mode short to battery protection

Part Number: TPS92682-Q1

Hi, Team

Hope you are doing well!

In TPS92682 CC mode, if the output is short to battery, how will the device behave? Will any protection be triggered or any fault will be reported?

Will the performance of Boost CC and Sepic CC be different?

Jeff

Thank you for your support and look forward to your reply!

  • Jeff,

For the Boost mode when the regulator is operating and output the controlled current initially then there is a short applied...The output current sense will be high then we get an Over-Current condition.  This is disable the output and turns off the controller and disconnect the external LED load by disabling the series PWM dimming FET.  Please see section 7.3.16.6 below for over-current.

For the SEPIC mode if the LED output voltage is lower then the input voltage (Boost mode of the SEPIC) while it's running then the short to battery is appllied...We will get an over current condition similar to the Boost regulator.  If the LED voltage is less than the input battery then it's short to the battery at the output...Then there is really no protection it's like shorting the LED which has lower Forward LED voltage directly to the battery and there is nothing that the part can do to protect the LED.

     Thanks Tuan
