TPS82130: Max Junction Temperature

If abs max Tj is 125C, could you explain why the thermal protection threshold is in the 150C range of Tj.

Hello Nancy,

On page 14 of the datasheet, it has derating curves for ambient temperature. Is there a good way in board layout to improve this derating?

In trying to improve this, will connecting the thermal pad to multiple Ground Planes using many vias improve this derating in terms of more current can be allowed at the same Tamb? Or soldering the input and output pin to bigger copper area? Can it improve this derating?

Hi Kyle,

The derating curve is measured from TPS82130EVM. TPS82130EVM used 4 layers and 1oz copper on each layer. There are two GND plane inside. So I am not sure if you can make big improvement from PCB layout. Do you want to consider our new generation Buck converter module TPSM82903. The TPSM82903 has higher recommended junction temperature as 125C vs 110C of TPS82130. Please see the link as below.
