LMR33630ADDAEVM: SW spikes

Part Number: LMR33630ADDAEVM

Hi Team,

I have a question about LM33630EVM.

Why Vin=24V, Vout=5V/3A. SW spikes are small or even none but vin=8V Vout=5V/3A. SW spikes are bigger.

Could you tell me the reason?

  • Hi Sveinn,

The switching spike is a natural behavior of switching power supplies. During switching, the PCB parasitic inductance from Vout to Cout, Cout to GND, Cout ESL will ring together with low-side MOS parasitic capacitance. As long as the output ceramic capacitor is placed very close to the IC as below picture, the sw spikes should be OK.
