BQ25710: BQ25710 work on Vin 18 and Vout 17.8V and how about the inductor current and △IL ?

Part Number: BQ25710

If we are using 4S battery, the output voltage of NVDC is about 17.8V and system w/ 100W(20V@5A) adapter.

Also the system input voltage is dropped to around 18V when the total system power is increased close to 100W and the large current happens suddenly.

In this case, since the output voltage of NDVC is nearly equal to the system input voltage, NVDC will work in the buck-boost mode then the inductor current is increased.

Is there no problem on the inductor thermal rise/saturation?

Would you help to calculate this worse case inductor current and  △IL on this case?

  • Hi, Louis,

When the input is very close to the output, the charger operates in buck-boost mode. This is the most efficiency mode compared to the other two. I don't see any problem on the thermal and saturation. The average inductor current is less than 100W/18V.

My suggestion is to size your inductor properly. Grab a BQ25710EVM, you will be surprised by high efficiency and cool temperature of the buck-boost charger.
