BQ2085: Queries regarding BQ2085DBT/BQ29311PW

Hi Team,

This battery management system is composed of TI's BQ2085DBT and BQ29311PW and is applied to 3 strings of 18650 lithium battery packs.
1. As the battery cell has been used for a long time and thus has a short battery life, I replaced it with the same 18650 battery cell. But after this, the board cannot be charged or discharged. Could you please tell me why?
2. Is this encrypted? How can I decrypt and activate it to make it work smoothly?
3. I would like to know if the communication protocol of this is IIC communication? Is it fixed? How can I get the communication protocol?

Hello Katherine,

The bq2085 can detect failures. It most likely entered a permanent fail state because the cells were disconnected. You will need to unseal and reprogram the gauge. You can read the datasheet and TRM for details.

What is the gauge that you mentioned? Do I need to turn on the host computer through the EV2300 connection to rewrite the parameters?

Also, is this communication protocol a SBSus standard protocol? Or is the SBS protocol fixed? How could I get the communication protocol?

Hello Katherine,

The gauge is bq2085. A host computer with USB ports will be required. Connect EV2300 between host computer and bq2085 to rewrite parameters. The communication protocol is SMBus. All details are in the datasheet.

Note that the EV2300 only works with 32 bit Windows. You may need to use an alternative for 64 bit Windows
