BQ24045: Fuel gauge and battery charger ic functional questions

Part Number: BQ24045

Fuel Gauge PN: BQ27421YZFR-G1B

Battery Charger IC PN: BQ24045DSQR

  1. When a FG is power cycled after running for a while will it behave identically to a FG powered up for the first time? I'd like to characterize the charge behavior of a new FG, but the easiest way to perform this would be using devices I have on hand where the FG has already been in use for a while. I'm hoping I can reset the FG and use them for this characterization.
  2. In reading through the battery charger ic datasheet my understanding is that every time the battery charger ic sees voltage applied a new charge cycle will start and the CHG pin is pulled low. I've recently observed that when the SOC is reporting full charge and voltage is applied to the battery charger ic, a new charge cycle is NOT started. This seems reasonable as a way to prevent overcharging the battery, but this behavior will need to be accounted for in our firmware logic so I want to confirm it is expected.
  3. More generally, outside of the 4 config parameters recommended in the technical guide (battery capacity, design energy, terminal voltage, taper rate), are there any additional config parameters you would recommend programming to improve the FG accuracy?
  4. I recently observed behavior where the battery charger ic will momentarily stop and start a charge cycle, but the soc is less than 50%. What conditions can result in this beahvior?
