BQ78350-R2-DEVICE-FW: Incompatible SHUTDOWN + CHARGER AUTO BOOT (Wake-Up) features

Part Number: BQ78350-R2-DEVICE-FW

I am testing pre-discharge feature given in SLUUBM6 figure 1. (Main FETs are high side NFET, but the pre-discharge path is identical)

When IC is going into the SHUTDOWN mode, the pre-discharge circuitry is momentarily being enabled due to the PullUp1 resistor (when the IC switches off and ping goes floating).

I am also testing an alternative BOOT feature from TIDUCN1 (TI Designs: TIDA-00792).

When BQ78350-R2 is entering the SHUTDOWN mode, pre-discharge wakes (BOOTS) the AFE IC again. Then BQ78350-R2 gets powered again.

Would you already have a reference design where both pre-discharge and SHUTDOWN mode works together?

  • I'm not aware of a circuit that can combine both features. There is no good way to prevent GPOUT from floating during shutdown, hence the pre-charge circuit will be enabled, which looks like it will wake up the AFE, which will wake up the gauge.
