BQ2040 operation question

I am currently evaluating a 4-cell Li-Po battery that uses the BQ2040 gas gauge. On its initial charge it requested ChargingVoltage of 16800mV. It is now requesting 'maximum' voltage (0xFFFF). The data sheet implies that it should always request the same ChargingVoltage. Is this normal or is there a problem somewhere?

When you say that it requested ChargingVoltage, are you referring to when you are using the 0x15 command to find the Charging Voltage, it is displaying 16800mV?

If so, is it later reporting 0xFF and that is what you mean by requesting 'maximum voltage'?

Yes to both (except it's 0xFFFF).

It is also sending the same values to the charger IC. (When it sends command 0x15 to the charger address).

bq2040 is a fairly old part so I might need some more information. Where are these values displaying? Could you provide screenshots of the displays and explain your process step by step?
