BQ27421-G1: differences between BQ27421 and BQ27427

I have a solar-powered project that is using a BQ24210 charger, we were considering using the BQ27220 fuel gauge,

but after considering device age, availability and integrated sense resistor we would like to consider the BQ27421. Is this

an acceptable device for use with the BQ24210? Additionally, how do the BQ27421 and the BQ27427 differ and are these

devices interchangeable? It looks like they are pin compatible.

Hello John,

bq27220 is a gauge that runs the CEDV algorithm.

bq27421 is impedance track. Impedance track is more suited when the battery has long periods of rest after charge and discharge.

bq27427 is a newer impedance track gauge. Use the GPCCHEM tool to see of your battery matches any of the pre-programmed chemistries before you try to use any of the impedance track gauges.

Hi Shirish,

So given that this device is continually charged, at least during the day. Would you recommend an impedance track device? Is the CEDV a better option?

Hello John,

If the device goes from charge to discharge and vice-versa without any "rest" in between, then CEDV will provide the best performance.
