UCC5350-Q1: Working of miller clamp

Hello,

i am using ucc5350-q1 gate driver for driving fs200r07pe igbt module. I am getting a fall time longer than i calculated and wanted to know whether the active miller clamp actually helps in reducing the fall time of the igbt during turn off or only keeps the Vge of the igbt below 2v threshold when it is off ,

    Is this fall time limited to the normal tail-current of this IGBT? A gate driver cannot really reduce the "Eoff" of the IGBT below its page 6 datasheet specification. 

    The Active miller clamp is designed to keep the Vge below the 2V threshold when the output is set low. However, this means that it can also activate during the course of a slow turn off time, and reduce the fall time. This is not its intended function however. You should just reduce the turn-off gate resistance if this is your goal. 

    If the switching losses of an IGBT are too high for your application, you might consider using silicon carbide switches, which have high voltage and also faster switching speeds.
