UCC28730: UCC28730-Output Change

Part Number: UCC28730
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC24650

Hi everyone.

I was trying to use UCC28730 PSR Flyback controller with Wake-up monitoring( Ucc24650), and actully using a converter designed by TI. In the datasheet example design the power is designed for an output of 5V-2A. But I desire to have 24V-4A output. Is such an output possible with this controller? If possible what parts should I change on the converter board. If you could give me your advices I will aprreciate for your helps.

Thanks from now.

  • Hi Sahin,

Thank you for the query on UCC28730.

Although the power level of 96W is on the higher side, you can definitely use UCC28730 to design for 24V/4A output.

We would recommend however to re-design a new board rather than trying to modify the existing 10W EVM as most of the components (transformer, Vs/CS/Vdd pin capacitors and resistors/snubber components/output capacitors) and PCB traces will need to be optimized for the new power level (the existing MOSFETs on primaryshould probably be ok to use for the new power level, but sec side needs to be checked depending on turns ratio.). The UCC28730 excel calculator can be good place to start the design. Please let us know if you have any questions.

    Regards,

    Harish

  • I really appreciate for your advices. This guidance and your help have given great beginning point of view for my output requierements and new design.
