TPSM82823: Low Dropout Operation (100% Duty Cycle)

Is my understanding correct? If it is any error, please point out.

In low dropout operation, equation(4) is adopted. So if Vin=3.3V(max of RDP is 80mΩ) and Iout=3A, drop voltage is 0.24V at FET and inductor.

Drop voltage is 0.24V so we can use TPSM82823 in condition of Input voltage=3.3V, Output voltage=2.5V, Iout=3A.

*TJ temperature rise: W x RθJA = I^2 x R x RθJA = 3^2 x 0.08 x 92.6 = 66.7C

  • Hi Shotaro,

    Your analysis is correct. You can use the TPSM82823 to convert 3.3V to 2.5V at 3A. Since the dropout is smaller than the difference between VIN and VOUT, the converter will be in normal switching mode and not 100% mode.
