TPS7H2201-SP: Question about reverse current protection of TPS7H2201-SP.

Part Number: TPS7H2201-SP

Hi expert,

For below schematic.

If my 5V secondary source short to GND and EN secondary keep high, looks like it will generate a reverse current go through the TPS7H2201-SP.

In this situation, will TPS7H2201-SP reverse current protection be triggered?

And what is behavior when reverse current protection works?

When reverse current higher than 0.45mA, then turn off internal MOSFET?

  • Hi Tom,

Yes, reverse current protection would be on in this scenario. If your secondary supply is shorted to GND, then the secondary device/switch will be off and so reverse current protection will be on by default. When reverse current protection is on, there can still be a small reverse leakage current. For this device this leakage current is typically 0.45mA, but can be up to 2.5mA max.

    Thanks,

    Sarah

  • Hi Sarah,

    Thanks for your reply!

Dose reverse current protection works by internal back to back two diodes?

If YES , Can I consider that is a passive protection when internal MOSFET off?

    And one more question,

If primary source is 5.1V and secondary source 4.9V.

    So vout = 5.1V >  secondary source = 4.9V.

In this scenario ,will secondary TPS7H2201-SP be off?

If yes, how much gap between Vout and Vin can trigger that?

    (In this case is 0.2V)

    Thanks!
