BQ76940: Is bq76940 compatible bq79600

Part Number: BQ76940
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ79616-Q1, BQ78350-R1A, BQ76952

 Hi Sir/Madam

Is BQ79600 compatible with BQ76940? If answer is not ok, Could you suggest IC P/N which  uses in BMU compatible with BQ76940 for energy storage systems?

Regards,

KT

  • Hi KT,

BQ79600 is only compatible with battery monitors from the BQ79616-Q1 family.

Are you needing to stack multiple battery monitors for your application? If so, the BQ76940 might not be the best choice for this specific application - many users stack 2 of these devices and interface to one microcontroller (see https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-01093 for reference), but not large stacks. For stacking a large number of devices, you should use the BQ79616-Q1.

The BQ78350-R1A is a gauge and controller for the BQ76940 which may be a good solution if you are using only one monitor (not stacking).

The BQ76952 family is the newer family of battery monitors which offer better accuracy, speed, and features than the BQ76940. There is also a stacking reference design available for this device (for stacking 2 devices): https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-010247

    Best regards,

    Matt
