Part Number: LM3478
Hello,
Is it possible to design a 3V to 40V boost converter with an output power of 6W with the LM3478.
I know it is a high duty cycle but is it possible?
Greetings
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
Thank you for using E2E forums, regarding your query according to the WEBENCH power designer it should or is possible but for startup maybe higher Vin is required around 4.5V. However, the duty cycle limitation might be an issue for 3V input and Vout of around 40V.

Hello Haroon,
why should a higher Vin be required for startup and for how long?
From 3V Up to 35V it should work fine I guess.
Greetings
Daniel
Hi Daniel,
As per the WEBENCH power designer simulation at 3V input the Vout will only go up to 30-35V and for proper startup 4.5V input is needed. You can see this using the simulation tab of WEBENCH designer tool. Let me know if you have troubles with the tool itself, it should be straight forward.
Hope this helps.

Haroon
