Hello

I am using LM5170EVM-BIDIR as a BOOST, My system is to provide 24 V at LV port and load of 10 ohm resistor at HV port. I have few complications:

1. I need to measure the duty cycle value which I think in board there is no test point. What is the best way to get the duty cycle measurents?

2. I also need to measure the inductor currents, which I read in data sheet that IOUT1 and IOUT2 pins are the input currents monitor pins which is inductor currents in case of BOOST operation but that are filtered one in EVM board. What is the possible way to get the inductor currents?

Hi Muhammad,

Thank you for using E2E forums, regarding your query:

1. For the duty cycle in BOOST you can using the formula for duty cycle calculation or you can just measure it through the SW node.

2. For the inductor current you probably need to solder a thick wire before the inductor and measure the inductor current flowing in that wire, unfortunately there is no pin on the board that can be used to measure that.

The duty cycle, I need a signal (a value) means not a square wave, I want to give it to the controller to estimate the inductor current, so is there any way to calculate it or get it.?

Hi Muhammad,

You can theoretically calculate it based on the formula that is given, bare in mind the formula changes depending on whether you it is SEPIC or a BOOST design.

Thanks for the reply.

I know I can calculate duty cycle by formula but as I said I need to get the duty cycle physical signal to give it to my controller, which i am concern I do not find any test point or nobe from where I can get it.

Hi Muhammad,

I do not think you can get a signal that tells you the duty cycle in the EVM unfortunately.
