UCC28810: Suitable for 230V/9A application?

Part Number: UCC28810

Dear all,

I need to design a sepic converter with PFC and the following specifications. Vin 85VAC - 265VAC, Vout 230VDC, Iout 9A.

I am now unsure if i can use the UCC28810 for this application. Or could you propose an other IC for this?

i can find a lot of controllers for Sepic topologies, but the PFC is a must that I need to have implemented.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Hello,

I don't think this part is good for SEPIC used for PFC control. Do you have any paper to explain how to use SEPIC for PFC?

    Regards,

  • There are several papers explaining bridgeless sepic converters with PFC or this application note where a SEPIC PFC is designed: Application Note SEPIC PFC.
In the Power Stage Designer Tool from TI, there is also the note number 7(see Screenshot) that states, every Boost Controller can also be used as a SEPIC controller. So i am guessing that I can also use a PFC controller that is used for boost topology for a SEPIC. But preferably I want a confirmation from a Manufacturer that this is possible.

  • Yes, for DC/DC converter, SEPIC can replace boost, but the power level is relatively low. SEPIC may not have good power factor and THD. Let me look at the paper and get back to you soon.
