LMR36510: About inductor selection(minimum value)

Part Number: LMR36510

Hi team,

 9.2.1.2.3 Inductor Selection

Is the value of M=0.625 fixed?

Could you tell me how this value was selected?

If Vout=24V, the L_min will be 3.75uH which is small value. What will happen if we select a lower inductor value?

Regards,

Ohashi

  • Hi Ryoma,

Based on the datasheet, M is a constant for the device. The minimum inductor value is stated to prevent subharmonic oscillation on the switch node that will cause instability. All current mode devices use internal slope compensation to prevent sub-harmonic oscillation at duty cycles greater than 0.5.  Using an inductor smaller than the minimum, based on this equation, may create instability at D>0.5.

    Best regards,
