UCD3138HSFBEVM-029: Convert from HSFB to HSHB

Hello,

We are traying to do a 48V DC to 48V DC converter with Hard Switching Half Bridge (HSHB) topology. We have seen that you have an Evaluation Module UCD3138HSFBEVM-029 which is Hard Switching Full Bridge (HSFB) topology.

  • Do you have any HSHB Evaluation Module?
  • Do you have any HSHB firmware that can work if we adapt the hardware of UCD3138HSFBEVM-029 board?
  • Do you think we will be able to adapt UCD3138HSFBEVM-029 to a Half Bridge, including firmware and hardware? What we should be consider?
  • Can we use Fusion DC-DC HSFB even if we convert the circuit to a DC-DC HSHB? What we should be consider?

    Hello,

    Unfortunately, we don't have any HSHB EVM board or EVM code. You will need to modify the HSFB EVM board and EVM code if you want. Change the board to be used as HSHB. As for the firmware, it almost requires no modification.

    Hello,

    We miss some topologies that can work with UCD3138. Like Hard Swithching Half Bridge, Full Bridge LLC or Push-Pull. Why can’t we find these solutions by TI?

    Hello,

    Hard Swithching Half Bridge and Full Bridge LLC can be just modified from HSFB and HB LLC respectively, it’s pretty straightforward. Change the power stage on the board, the control part and the firmware almost require no modification.

    Hello,

    Ok understood.

    The UCD3138HSFBEVM-029 uses UCD3138RHA (40 pins) microcontroller with firmware HSFBFirmware-1.1-windows-installer.exe. Do you know if is possible to load this firmware in the module UCD3138ACCEVM149 that uses UCD3138ARGC (64 pins) microcontroller?

    Hello,

    Yes, it's doable.  HSFBFirmware is a consolidate code which integrates all the UCD3138 families, including UCD3138 and UCD3138A.

    You can decide which device this firmware would be used for by changing the configuration in CCS as below.

    Right click the project name-àproperties-àCCS General-àManage Configurations, choose the expected one, set active, and click OK.

    Then choose the active one in Configuration.

     

    Also, it's recommend to ues CCS6 for UCD3138 firmware.
