TPS56C230: Resistor on BST pin

Part Number: TPS56C230

Hi team,

I’m designing with the TPS56C230 part and I have a doubt:

In the datasheet, in the section ‘Layout Guidelines’, recommends to install a resistor in the BST pin in series with the capacitor.

But there are no more information about this resistor in the rest of the datasheet, neither in the Webench simulation.
Can you please clarify if it is needed, and if yes, what value is the correct one.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Jens

  • Hi Jens

recommend adding a 0-Ω resistor in series with the BOOT capacitor with an 0402 or larger package size. Optional but highly recommended in case of layout related issues.

If the SW pin overshoot is too high, populating a 4.7-Ω resistor in series with the BOOT capacitor minimizes high frequency voltage overshoots on rising edge of SW pin.
