Hi,

Can you help with this customer query?

"I am working on a simulation that uses the CSD18514Q5A.lib. The device description describes it as a ‘level 7’ model, do you have any information on what that means? I am mainly looking at switching losses, is this a good model for that? We have this FET specified in an older design that we are looking to re-use but the new machine will have a higher load."

Hello Jani,

Thanks for the inquiry. There is a lot of literature available regarding PSpice models for MOSFETs. I am including a link below with a good explanation of the different model levels. Level 7 BSIM 3 is the highest level model and should be fairly accurate in predicting switching losses. The CSD18514Q5A model includes parasitic elements and the capacitances are tabulated models to closely reflect the non-linear nature of the variation with Vds as shown in Figure 5 of the datasheet. We also have Excel-based FET selection tools that allow the user to input their requirements and compare up to 3 different TI FET solutions based on power loss, 1ku price and package. Based on your description, I am assuming this is for a motor drive application. You can find the motor drive tools at the links below.
