BQ78350-R2-DEVICE-FW: Advanced Charge Algorithm

Part Number: BQ78350-R2-DEVICE-FW

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have a question about advance charge algorithm. Could you help me, please about this issue?

In the below picture shows temperature and current value for low and standart temperature. Does this mean that , If the charge's current is higher 22A , charge ends? But When I tested, I can charge with 40A at standart temperature values. Charge doesn't end. Is this  feature  only for fast charge?

Note: Gauge IC is bq78350-R2

Thanks for support.

  • Hello Korcan,

The charger can read recommended charging current value from bq78350. The charger is however responsible to provide the current. bq78350 does not regulate the charge current.

  • Hello Shirish,

Advance charge algorithm is about jeita charge algorithm, isn't it. For example Low temperature mode is between T1 and T2 temperature. If I can charge at low temperature with  higher 22A, Does bq78350 go into  protection state? It has to end the charge (turn off the charge fets), isn't it? If answer is no, could you explain advance charge algorithm?

  • Hello Korcan,

The advanced charge algorithm is mainly used with Jeita compliant chargers. The fuel gauge has protection but that is in a separate section where you can set thresholds. The protection thresholds are usually not grouped in temperature ranges.

The advanced charge algorithm provides the charger with the correct values for charging.

The fuel gauge usually broadcasts the charge current and voltage information to the smart battery charger or keyboard controller for periodically setting the proper charge current and voltage.

Here is a document that explains the concept www.ti.com/.../slyt365.pdf
