BQ24800: hybrid boost enable requirement

Part Number: BQ24800

Hi team,

my customer want to enable hybrid boost  with battery plugged, while disabling it when battery removal,

but they noticed when they remove battery and re-plug it again, the hybrid boost mode can't be writen it back to 1 .

we can write it back to 1 until we power down and power up again.

may I know why can't we write it back to 1 when we re-plug battery ?

  • Hi Fred,

That seems strange. I have a few questions:

    1. What is their battery voltage and input adaptor voltage?

    2. I am assuming they mean the following:

With the input adaptor present the whole time, unplug the battery and plug the battery in again.

    3. Are they sure it is not a firmware issue?

    Thanks,

    Peng

  • Hi Pengzhao,

    1. battery is 2S, input is around 19~20V I guess,

    2. yes , you're right.

    3. what do you mean firmware issue? I though I2C register setting is firmware issue?

  • Hi Fred,

What I mean is that we need to make sure the customer is sending the right commands and that it was not a coding mistake. Please have them double check they are not writing the firmware wrong and is doing the proper sequence to write the bit to 1.

This would be additional information to help us debug.

    Thanks,

    Peng

  • Hi Pengzhao,

    quick question aside from this,

this hybrid boost bit will be rest to 0 once battery removal,

customer ask if there's a chance to change this which means keep this at 1?

    or it's fixed setting already?

    Regards,

    Fred

  • Hi Fred,

I tested it on the EVM. ~20VIN. ~8VBAT.

    1. With 20VIN present, if I unplug VBAT, hybrid boost bit resets to 0. After I re-plug VBAT, I can set hybrid boost bit to 1. I don't see any issues.

    2. After battery unplug and re-plug, customer will need to write the hybrid boost enable bit again to 1. It is by design. If you don't see options on the datasheet, then it is fixed.

    Thanks,

    Peng
