BQ27510-G3: Qmax is not learning

Part Number: BQ27510-G3

Hello TI team,

We have done learning cycle and optimized the fuel gauge parameters based on our application. after loading the golden image, we do charge the battery to full and most of the time the Qmax changes a bit in the expected range and SOH Status goes to level 3 which is good. but in some devices, we see the initial RM estimate is not correct (mostly lower than real) and that causes the FCC to fall after the first charge. we use a 500mA battery but in these cases the FCC falls to around 380mA and following that, the Qmax gets updated with a number around 400mA. we were hopping after a few discharging and charging cycles, the Fuel gauge updates itself, but it never happens even after 5-6 cycles. only FCC changes ~5mA up or down but no correction in Qmax.

In another unit, after the first charging cycle, we replaced the battery with the same chemical but lower capacity (320mA). also, this one never does learning and changing the Qmax and FCC after a few discharging and charging cycles. it still remains around 500mA which we know it is not correct.

we have tested the batteries with an accurate industrial battery system machine, and we know those are fine. also, per the information on this link BQ27510-G3 issue with StateOfCharge after a few cycles - Power management forum - Power management - TI E2E support forums, we have disabled filtering as we have seen the filtered FCC and RM jump to almost 30% higher than the battery capacity after a few cycles.

Also, in all of our tests, there is no system software involved.

What should we do to force the Qmax to learn and update in a natural way?

Thank you,

Amin.

  • Hello Amin,

Check if the golden image was created correctly(update status changes before taking the image)

Then send IT enable after loading golden image followed by reset.

If the battery was charged/discharged just before connection, then the initial estimate will be incorrect but will correct later on.
