TPS65982: USB not detected by PC

Hi,

I am working on the USB-C PD controller TPS65982 to add USB-C connector to our product, I am using OMAPL138 as the processor for the product.

I have connected the OMAPL138's USB0_DP and USB0_DN to TPS65982's USB_RP_P and USB0_RP_N respective. When I connect the device to PC its shown under "libusb-win32 devices" as TPS65982 even when I am running USB2.0 application on the device.

If I connect the device via usb-b to PC it is shown under Other device -> Generic Bulk Device , this what we are exposing device as. Why is it detected differently when connected using USB-C ?

The PD controller is configured to act as Dual Role Port using the standard config provided in Application Customization tool.

Is there something I am missing?

Hi Kushal,

Since Brandon is out of office due to military leave.

Can I know what is the speed of the USB2.0 device you are testing with?

Can I know the reason of using TPS65982 instead of TSP65987? TPS65982 is not recommended for new design on our website and we are pushing customer to use TPS65987 as this a newer device.

Hi Tommy,

The USB2.0 device's speed is 480 Mbps.

I am not sure why TPS65982 is picked over TSP65987, if it can fix this issue and can offer everything that the TPS65982 offers, we may use TSP65987 instead of TPS65982.

And how easy it to migrate to TSP65987 from TPS65982 ? If you can share the document related to it, I would really appreciate it.

Hi Kushal,

We are no longer updating TPS65982 (only maintain no bug fixes) so moving to TPS65987 will be the better choice.

The migration should be very easy so there are no related documents.

The only thing that is different is that the D+/D- line on the connector will go to the processor directly.
