Can this board BQ79616EVM-021 be operated for cell monitoring only without passive balancing?

    Hello,

    Cell balancing is not needed for the 616 to complete monitoring--cell balancing is a feature offered by the BQ79616, but the device must be configured to set up cell balancing before any cell balancing will be performed.  

    Also note that if the BAL_GO bit remains 0 and is not set to 1, then no cell balancing will occur.  More information on cell balancing settings and configuration can be found in section 9.3.3.1 of the BQ79616 datasheet.  If you have any trouble accessing the datasheet, please let me know.
