BQ2970: BQ2970DSE - Over Discharge / Charge Current Protection

Part Number: BQ2970

Hello,

I am making a safety assessment on a product that uses this device for battery protection. Can somebody help me please

How is the over current level determined ? as i need to prove that the circuit meets power dissipation levels.

regards

Steve

  • Hello Steven,

The over-current threshold is set in-factory. You can see the available part and their thresholds in Section 5 Device Comparison Table of the datasheet.

The BQ2970 part itself detects the difference in voltage between V- and Vss to determine the over-current condition. This difference is determined by the RDSON of the CHG/DSG FETs. Section 10.2.2 Detailed Design Procedure details an example of how to create a criteria for the FET selection.
