TPS38: Looking for a device capable of monitoring a 24V supply voltage

Part Number: TPS38
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS3760

Hi Experts,

Please help us to assist our customer.

In the datasheet of the TPS38, it appears that it is designed to work with a supply voltage regardless of monitoring voltage and it is a perfect component to supervise the battery voltage (12 or 24 V) of a vehicle. Therefore, I would like to know your opinion about this device and if it is perfect for the objective that I have commented you.

The customer needs to use a device capable of monitoring a 24V DC supply voltage for developing an application that would work to this voltage, but it should continue to work during 10 ms (because the application has a secondary source capable to supply 24 V during 40 ms more and the application must execute specific tasks before shutting down) after of that happen a voltage break due to an interruption or the voltage reaching a value of 12 V or less. Therefore, when this situation occurs, the device must inform my application through a digital signal of "0" or "1" (3.3 V).

1) If you may, what other devices could you recommend to us that meet these features?

2) Could you provide us with a working example of the device you recommend?

Thank you in advance for your support.

Best regards,

Jonathan

  • Hi Jonathan,

How many voltage rails are they monitoring?

  • Hi Jesse,

I will get back to you as soon as the customer gives this information. Thank you for your usual support.

  • Hi Jesse,

I have to ask our customer once again and here are the full details of their inquiry below.

I am writing this message because I need to use a device capable of monitoring a 24V DC supply voltage because I am developing an application that will work to this voltage, but it must continue to work during 10 ms (because my application has a secondary source capable to supply 24 V during 40 ms more and my application must execute specific tasks before shutting down) after of that happen a voltage break due to an interrupter or the voltage reaching a value of 12 V or less.

Therefore, when this situation occurs, the device must inform my application (microcontroller) through a digital signal of "0" or "1" (3.3 V)."

Any other questions feel free to ask.

Thank you for your usual support.

    Best regards,

    Jonathan

  • Our team will respond today.

  • Hi Jonathan,

For the TPS38, as long as Vdd is uninterrupted, the device will continue to function. This device also has the capability to adjust its sense delay, so that only faults greater than the configured sense delay will cause a RESET to assert. I asked about the number of rails because the TPS38 is a dual channel over voltage or under voltage monitor, while our TPS3760 have all the capabilities of TPS38 but is a single channel over voltage or under voltage monitor.
