TPS51200-Q1: Application questions

Part Number: TPS51200-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS51200

Hello team,

My customer is evaluating the TPS51200-Q1 for the DDR, have question as below:

1. How to judge the sink and source independently?

Thanks,

Lanxi

  • Sorry, add 2 more questions as below:

    1. How to judge the sink and source independently?

    2. When the TPS51200 is used as a sink, whether the voltage output is kept at 0.6V?

    3. Does the TPS51200 adjust the output and input according to the voltage of refout?

    Thanks,

    Lanxi

  • Hi Lanxi,

    1. On the EVM guide located here, on page 12 section 5.4.2, there are instructions on how to test the LP DDR3 Sink/Source transient. To recreate something similar, you could connect a voltage source with a higher level to VTT using low-value high-power resistors. If you wanted to sink 1A of current with 0V6 VTT and 1V2 VLDOIN, you can connect VLDOIN to VTT with two parallel 1.2-ohm 1W resistors. Due to the large drop across the resistors it's important that these resistors have high power ratings, which is why it's recommended to use parallel resistors.

    2. When the TPS51200 is used as a sink, the output voltage is expected to go up depending on the output current as seen in the datasheet here, in the 'Typical Characteristics' section on page 7-9.

    3. Yes. The output voltage, VO, is regulated by the REFOUT pin.

    Thanks,

  • Hello Field,

    Thank you so much.

I am wondering that whether can I loop you in the email with customer if they have more deep questions?

    Best regards,

    Lanxi

  • Hi Lanxi,

Yes that will be fine. My email is: f-tolson@ti.com.

    Thanks,
