LM5108: Single channel use (electronic switch)

Part Number: LM5108
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMUX8108,

Dear,

Is it possible to use this gate driver as a single channel gate driver?

We have the following situation. We need to act as an electronic switch between a high impedant input and a relative low output impedance. I cannot use a relay (100000 cycles won't be enough). So I was thinking to use a N-channel mosfet, but with a gate driver to boost the signal above the voltage at topside of the switch.

General idea of our current problem:

The 5MOhm (or higher) is to keep HS in a defined area when the switch is open.

General idea of how we want to solve this:

Or do you suggest a different kind of solution? The only other kind of solution i was thinking of is TMUX8108 and only use one channel.

Best regards,

Jan

  • Hi Jan,

Thank you for reaching out! Yes! You can actually use the LO signal of the driver to help create an LO oscillator that makes a charge pump to drive your MOSFET/switches. Our team actually has an application report available that discusses how to implement this circuitry, component selection considerations, and some performance tradeoffs to be aware of: Link. LM5108 has an interlock feature, so the internal logic of the device prevents both outputs from turning on at the same time. UCC27212 is a higher current Half-Bridge driver with independent outputs that may be a better fit for this application if you plan on replicating the "One Hundred Percent Duty-Cycle Capable Half-Bridge Gate Drivers..." circuitry shown in Figure 3.

I hope this helps answer your question! Please let me know if you have any more questions after reading the team's article.

  • Hi Alex,

Thank you for your reply, I'll have a look tomorrow. This looks good at a first glance.

(side question, i have somewhere a closed thread, which i want to marked as solved, instead of pending, is this still possible?)

    Best regards,

    Jan
